I know, I've said it before, but…
I really miss Steve Perry. Not the pants or the shirts. But the voice. And DEFINITELY the hair.
I'm what you'd call an unapologetic 80s corporate rock whore. And by "whore" I mean "Super Fan!"
Happy holidays. Don't you go stoppin' believin', y'all.

ROCK ON 80'S!!!!!!!!!! I keep Journey's Greatest Hits CD in my car!! Wait...can you hear that...my big bangs are screaming!!! I LOVE STEVE PERRY!!!!

you must be my age!! I LOVE JOURNEY TOO!! feeling a little nostalgic this week my dear??

Thanks Cathy for this video - it's so nice to be part of such a huge group of 80s whores, I mean fans!
Also thanks for the heads up on the Robert Plant/Allison Krauss CD. I bought it for my musician Dad who is going to love it, and I can't get the blues song out of my head!

I am also a shameless Journey fan. Steve's voice is incredible. But I much prefer to listen to a cd than see that little fashion reminder...

my friend had a tribute band to journey. we used to go to all their shows - and the guy LOOKED like steve perry and sounded like him too. they were very popular in st. louis and i somehow lost track of that "scene" and wish i could find them so i could see again. so awesome they were!
Posted by: holly | December 19, 2007 at 09:43 AM
Thanks for keepin it real Cathy. You are so funny. How about that shirt he's wearing, and those jeans. Wow. But you know what?-his hair and his voice. Both Awesome.
Merry Christmas-

Oh how I wished my name was Sherrie in 1984. I think my most favourite part of this video is the opening shot, where the camera pans out and you have to look really hard to see if he's wearing a shirt.
Posted by: Cheryl | December 19, 2007 at 10:06 AM
Journey was the first concert I ever saw at Red Rocks ampetheater in Denver. Wow.
Anyway, you may want to take another look at the pants.........or are you just happy to see me :)
Posted by: Linda | December 19, 2007 at 10:07 AM
I'm with you. In my mind the band no longer is together. They are NOT Journey without him. He is AMAZING in concert!! My aunt took me to see them when I was like 13, i was in heaven!! My fav part of this video is the beginning when he is playing "air piano" LOL!!!
Posted by: Nicole Mc | December 19, 2007 at 10:12 AM
This is right up there with one of the best 80's songs. Just remember dancing my heart out to the song at a school dance. His looks are not all that, but damn he can sing and bring you to your knees. Thanks for the reminder.
Posted by: Jeanine | December 19, 2007 at 10:13 AM
Oh, that voice.................
Posted by: Steph | December 19, 2007 at 10:21 AM
I always feel like I have SP hair when I come back from the salon. It is straight and flat.
Posted by: Sharon Faulk | December 19, 2007 at 10:25 AM
Ok, I must be a 80s corporate rock whore too, because blasting that song this morning did more to improve my mood than three verses of Jingle Bells ever could :)
Thanks for making my day CZ, happy Holidays to ya!
Posted by: Becki | December 19, 2007 at 10:28 AM
OMG Thanks Cathy! I love his voice so very much! Those jeans are so killing me though! LOL
Posted by: Charisse | December 19, 2007 at 10:29 AM
It's only REAL Journey if it has Steve Perry. The rest is just faux-Journey, a shameful mockery.
Posted by: Sarah B | December 19, 2007 at 10:32 AM
DH and I are big Journey fans too! Could listen to Steve all day (& do sometimes since it's on my MP3!). :-)
Posted by: Lois | December 19, 2007 at 10:35 AM
Wow, Cathy, thanks for the Journey trip. i was still trippin on the Foreigner link from a few weeks back . . . paying a penance, i was longing for home. made me want to go make out with my husband in the front seat of his Monte Carlo, wait, my husband drove a Honda Civic when we met. oops. rock on.
Posted by: Nancy | December 19, 2007 at 10:41 AM
this is a shocker to my system.
Posted by: suetreiber | December 19, 2007 at 11:14 AM
ULTIMATE favorite head-banger song...'Lovin, Touchin, Squeezin'... Totally meant to be sung obnoxiously loud, while driving a lazer red, Mustang GT convertible down Highway 1 (Pacific Coast Highway). Man! Those were the days when I still had hormones!!
"Na na... na na na... na na na ...na na...!!!
Posted by: Stephanie T. | December 19, 2007 at 11:19 AM
OK, so I just have to say thanks for making my day. I too loved Steve Perry and Journey. So much so that I had the Atari "Journey" game. Played this song in the background during the actual game. Now, that's good stuff. Thanks for the memory!
Posted by: Trish H. | December 19, 2007 at 11:56 AM
I LOVE JOURNEY! And I somehow suspect that Steve Perry might now be of an age where he misses all of that hair, too... :)
Posted by: Gretchyn | December 19, 2007 at 12:16 PM
I am an 80's music "whore" too. Thanks for that blast from the past. I too miss Steve Perry. I always loved his hair!!! Now I have to go find my Journey cd's and download them to my Ipod (not so 80's LOL!!). Have a great day!

OMG, I love SP too...thanks Cathy

My very first album purchase with my own money was Journey's ESCAPE. Sigh.
Posted by: deb | December 19, 2007 at 12:57 PM
Okay, I admit, I'm a total sucker for 80's hair. I try to hide this as my hubby thinks most music in the 80's sucks. Can't convince him that the Doors are not the end of music! Love these gems you find on you tube-how much time a day are you there? :)
Posted by: Emily Hoadley | December 19, 2007 at 01:10 PM
OMG how cool. I loved Journey. This song, "Lovin'Touchin'Squeezin'", "Lights", and of course "Open Arms" (which my girlfriends and I used to sing really loud and change the words to Open Legs! Oooh, is that bad!?). Thanks for the memories. You ROCK!

I think ole' Steve forgot to put on his undies for that show ;)
Posted by: Kelley | December 19, 2007 at 02:31 PM
This post just further confirms the fact that I'm convinced this song is stalking me. What can that mean?
Posted by: Courtney | December 19, 2007 at 02:37 PM
What a VOICE! Wow, I always assumed they did a lot with his voice in the studio, but this was live, and it was great! But the way his "boys" were bunched up in those jeans has to help with the high notes! LOL!
Unfortunately, that song is ruined for me because of the ridiculously lame Sopranos finale. :-(

OMIGOD! I swear, girl, you've either got some hidden camera in my house so you can blog my life, or we were truly, really separated at birth. And at a miserable, horrible time in my life, know that your blog makes me smile and go about another day.
LONG LIVE STEVE PERRY!!!
Posted by: Susan Schacht | December 19, 2007 at 03:30 PM
I agree 100%---Steve Perry = Journey....SIGH--I wish these bands would put their egos aside and play for the common good: the FANS! Thanks for the blast into my past! Love 'em!
Posted by: Lori C | December 19, 2007 at 04:03 PM
I had a shirt like that with MATCHING pants! Seriously.

I *SO* miss him too!! Love his voice!!!
Posted by: Krystyn | December 19, 2007 at 04:40 PM
Oh, yeah!! I love Journey. I remember I was lucky enough to buy 8 tickets to their show in Hartford, CT in 1985. We were 16. My best friend's mother would not let her go to a "rock concert." They were so tame compared to other bands out there, but there's no explaining to parents. I still remember the show, the music, the lights.....ahhhhhh, thanks, Cathy, for bringing back such great memories!
Posted by: Nancy | December 19, 2007 at 05:11 PM
Come on you know you love those shirts!!! lol
Posted by: Julie | December 19, 2007 at 05:20 PM
It's funny because when I was in high school the only thing I did not like about Journey was Steve's hair. I could not stand to look at him. I would always think "get a hair cut!"
Merry Christmas

Steve Perry is a jackass for not being able to set aside his ginormous ego and patching up his issues with Journey long enough to tour for a couple years. A true Journey reunion would be a huge moneymaker. The guy is 58 years old. If he waits much longer, it won't be an option. Who knows... maybe his voice is already shot.
Posted by: Bubby | December 19, 2007 at 07:13 PM
I hear ya! There will be no other lead singer for Journey. They just got another new singer for the band. So sad! SP just needs to come back, and sing. If Robert can do it, so can Steve.
Posted by: Carolyn | December 19, 2007 at 07:36 PM
So flippin' irritated by the "Journey Tour" of last year. How IN the HELL can one have a tour WITHOUT steve perry?!!!!!!! What a flippin' joke! At that time I totally spent a complete three hours I did not really have to spend at all, looking the man up on the internet. COULD NOT GET ENOUGH OR UNDERSTAND!!!!!!!!!! I am still confused about Steve Perry. Then, I tell you THEN, I see a picture of Randy all spandexed out lookin' just a tad too grande for spandex, ( I am not judging, just a bad choice of outfit) and it killed me that much more. Thanks for the memory filled with sorrow and saddness. I'll keep believin'...........
cheers.

OK addendum to my last comment. I just watched the video and am grossed out by the mom jeans. Dude. Skinny guys with small packages just slightly grossing me out. Like grossing me out in a bug way. Did we really wear our jeans that high waisted and tight? I guess we did. Bring on the Coca Cola shirts.
cheers.

I love Journey...

this is such a big song. i like big songs. and i like the way he hits some of the notes.
Posted by: stephanie | December 19, 2007 at 09:12 PM
Me too. Is it sad that I Google him once in a while just to see if there's anything new going on?
Posted by: Elaine | December 19, 2007 at 10:13 PM
Love that clip. It took me right back to junior high, and reminded me of just how great a voice he has (even though I was a little distracted by the high waisted jeans - isn't it funny how the pendulum swings?) Just in case you were wondering what he's up to these days, he answered a bunch of questions at this link:

I was a fan of Journey before they got famous. They were the ultimate late 70's college progressive rock band. The best album in my collection is "Infinity".
